I followed up my 
debut article on Adventure Gamers with a look at the 
practical applications of light in background art. This is very much a utilitarian, functional examination, but no less important - whether it's reminding of something we already know as artists, or filling artists in on something they may not have yet considered when planning a scene, these are the sorts of things that are definitely worth keeping in mind to help your players "read" and understand scenery.
