Prototype

Sometimes I get an idea and instead of just writing it down or sketching it out, I build a prototype to see how it'd all work - sometimes you don't know how well something will work until you actually feel it for yourself in game.

Recently, I built this prototype of a "rooms within a room" idea that has been kicking around my head for a while. I've been wanting to do something like this since I made !, but only just thought of this way of doing it the other day, and would be interested to hear any feedback on the concept. If you'd like to try out the basic prototype, you can do so here.

There are no puzzles or real interactions yet, but it should give a reasonable idea of how it will all work in the end.

High Res

Just found this today when discussing game design with some people! Often I've been asked if/when I'll move to high res and usually the answer is "Why bother?", but I have experimented with the idea in the past, as can be seen here.

This is a screenshot from a working prototype of a platformer design that has been kicking around in my head for years now. It never got very far - this screenshot has been sitting around for over a year now, and I doubt I'll ever work on this build of it (although I still have the design firmly in my head and love it very much).

The biggest issue with games of this resolution is, of course, animation, so until/unless I get better at drawing characters consistently at a high resolution, I will most definitely stick to lower resolutions for now.

Who knows what the future holds, though?

Snapshot

Over 1.75 million pixels - that seems like such a lot!

I was going through some old pictures while having a break from drawing today, and decided it'd be fun to collect some of the screenshots/concept art/prototype placeholders I've drawn over the years into a single image. It's certainly not an extensive list, there are a whole bunch of other projects that I didn't like enough to throw in here or couldn't really fit, but it is a pretty good representation of the last few years of my drawing and painting.

Hundreds of sprites, dozens of backgrounds, thousands of frames of animation, and even a few games at the end of it. There's some never before seen stuff here; some never to be released, some probably to be released at some point, and some to be released soon - as well as some of my favourite screenshots from some of the games that I've released.

It's been a fun ride, and I've learned a lot - and hope to learn a lot more. Now excuse me, I've some drawing to go and do.
